As with most small businesses, Buffalo Creek Horn Mounts (BCHM) started out as a hobby for brothers John and Jeff Smette of Granville, ND. John and Jeff are hunters first and taxidermists second. The brothers needed to mount some of their horns and that's how this whole thing started. Doug Smette of Makoti, ND a part time taxidermist, taught John and Jeff how to do basic deer mounts. Since, then Smettes have expanded their knowledge and become certified taxidermists in the state of North Dakota. BCHM went into business in early 2004. It's truly a family business. The Smette brothers design their own custom wood plaques. Linda Smette (mom) stains and varnishes the plaques in her shop in Granville. Some of the services BCHM offers are horn mounts, photo mounts, European mounts, and turkey tail fan mounts. Most of their work is done on deer, antelope, elk, moose, bison, and turkeys. Custom mounts, displays, and horn repair are also available. They have many repeat customers from Granville, Velva, Minot, Surrey, Sawyer, Makoti, and Ryder. The Smettes want to provide fellow hunters with an affordable option to display their trophies. John and Jeff are also members of the National Rifle Association and are licensed taxidermists from the state of North Dakota.
